Identified by Bund für Naturschutz, a German conservation group, under the code FFH¹ DE 1721‐301. An area of existing lowland forest with a unique system of springs and streams. The area is to be protected and expanded in the long term.

The reforestation area is located in the parish of Lehmkuhlen next to the city of Preetz. Located in the northern foothills of the hilly country of Schleswig-Holstein and previously used for farming, the area is adjacent to the 50 hectare Lehmkuhlen Arboretum listed on the historic register.

The Aukamp reforestation area is located in the district of Bad Segeberg west of the parish of Seedorf and the Seedorfsee and south of the Stocksee lakes. The Eutin national forest is nearby.
Stocksee lake (in the Little Switzerland region of Holstein) is partially located in the conservation area Mittlere Stocksee.
